Travelling with Kids, keep them cool with creativity

Are you wondering how on earth you will keep your littl'uns entertained when you are enroute to your holiday destination? You may have a long car journey or time to fill in an airport, or a long haul flight to cope with?

Don't let them overheat with boredom or too many dvd's!

To minimise meltdowns and parental stress, it's always good to have some creative activities up your sleeve. Coloring, constructing, designing and drawing can really engage children, stimulate their imagination and keep them occupied, especially if the theme interests them or is linked to their holiday destination in some way.

You can easily pack a selection of felt tips, pencils, a ruler and a glue stick in a zip lock bag, along with a pad of paper. My children love having a little art kit in their rucksack, along with a few cuddly toys!

Last September, I teamed up with Pure Wander Magazine, who focus on worldwide family adventures. I have created over 30 unique blog posts entitled, 'The Art of Travel'
exploring all manner of creative ways to entertain your children in transit, from exploring the Caribbean, to Ancient World Crafts and Surf Board Design!

You will find tutorials at Pure Wander, and lots of ready to use templates and coloring sheets can be downloaded for free at The ImaginationBox, just print and go!
Here are a few examples below, all have been tried and tested on my 6 and 4 year old special helpers. Happy holidays everyone!

Get your kids inspired by Matisse

Henri Matisse’s eye popping colour cut-outs are brought together for a blockbuster show at Tate Modern, The Sunday Times

Henri Matisse: The Cut-Outs
Tate Modern: Exhibition, 17 April – 7 September 2014

Even if you can't make it to London to see this exhibition with your kids, you can get them inspired by Matisse Cut Outs and make your own fantastic collages and paintings.

You can download this template of Matisse inspired cut out shapes here

Cut out the shapes using brightly coloured papers or magazine cuttings.
Play around with the shapes, glue them down when you are happy with the arrangement.

You can even have a go at doing a  painting of your collage - your own Modern Art original!

Great for all ages, younger children may need help with the cutting out.
