Decopatch Baubles

Picture
Decopatch is the modern version of 'decoupage'. My children have loved doing decopatch since they were around 3. You can cover almost anything from a shoe to a door! The glue dries clear so if the children put a bit too much on, it doesn't matter.

Shops like Hobbycraft sell the papers, the glue and lots of child friendly cardboard shapes, animals, letters etc to cover.

The above images are all about Christmas. We bought cheap round and star shaped baubles and covered them with Christmassy decopatch papers. Old tiles make great coasters.

A great afternoon activity, put them on the tree or give away as handmade gifts!

 Felt & Scraps Funky Tree

Picture
These trees don't have to be perfect, you can leave the edges raw, and hand sew them, that's what gives them a handmade, funky feel!
I used cotton on one side, felt on the other, added ribbon, buttons etc and padded them with a bit of wadding.
A great gift or an addition to your tree. With careful supervision, suitable for age 6 plus.

Happy Pegmas!

I saw this idea on pinterest and thought I'd give it a go with my 2 littl'uns  - I bought a pack of 40 or so pegs for a £1 at the local bargain shop.
Charlie, age 6, said he thought this was one of the best projects he's ever done and has been hooked for a couple of days now, before breakfast and after school.
Here are some of our pegs, decorated with felt tip, black fine liners, and metallic silver / gold pens.....we'll be hanging the cards up with them this year!

Make Beautiful Origami Christmas Baubles

Do you remember making origami 'water bombs' at school - paper balls that you folded from a square, blew up and filled with water and threw at someone in the playground?? (I do!)

Well, they also make lovely decorations - try using diffrent types of paper, brown paper, sheet music, pages from an old nursery rhyme book, national geographic magazine. Younger children will need help - after you've made a couple, it seems alot easier!

Click on this Activity Village link for great step by step instructions.

I have worked with patients in their hospital beds making these baubles, here's a selection below......

I'm excited to have a stall at this craft fair with 30 or so other folk - I've never done one before! I've been designing all sorts - cards, chocolate bars, key rings, bunting, decorations and gift ideas, along with cards to colour in and keep children occupied!

Pasta Bracelets

This is such a simple, affordable activity, suitable for age 3+, great for developing fine motor skills - the younger the child, the bigger the holes in the pasta for easy threading! We all did this outdoors at wood school today, it was lovely and sunny. All you need is shirring elastic, a pair of safely scissors and pasta - delis do all manner of interesting circle and tube shaped pasta - and pasta is so much cheaper than buying beads!

Simple Printing

Picture
The above results can be obtained in a surprisingly short amount of time with children of all ages, 3+ ( with assistance of course - aprons, washable paint, wipes, a table cloth etc, glitter is optional, depending on your mess tolerance!)

The idea is to create a print block, by cutting out shapes and making marks in polystyrene - you can buy sheets online or round pizza bases work just as well!
The great thing is, once you have made a print block, you can produce as many images, in as many colours as you want from this one block - great for making enough Christmas cards for all the children in the class.

See below for an example of the blocks I made.

Get a large brush, and brush paint over the block, more than one colour if you want - turn it over onto the paper, press down and rub your hand over it, and lift off - ta dahh!
You can experiment printing onto different papers - music papers, newspaper, brown paper. Have fun!
